Serious Illness Program
Facing a serious illness can feel isolating, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Connection, support, and kindness can make all the difference.
We offer support, solace, and assistance for people going through life-altering illnesses with a focus on cancer and organ disease. Our goal is to create connection and reduce the sense of isolation for the seriously ill, as well as offer a place to help find sources of support and kindness in the community.
To reduce the isolation that serious illness can create, we connect community members with others in the area. The connection may be with other people with serious illnesses, or with volunteers who are trained and ready to help. Volunteers can offer emotional support and a listening ear, companionship, help around the house, transportation for appointments, support for appointments and treatments, and more.
Peer support groups offer a safe place where folks can get together and openly share their experiences with others who truly understand. Participants can share personal experiences, feelings, and coping strategies. Support groups also allow for shared learning, and are both online and in-person.
The Serious Illness Program is for people with a diagnosis of cancer or organ disease that may or may not carry a terminal prognosis, who live in Windham County and bordering NH towns. All services are free of charge and fully confidential. Contact the program coordinator via email or phone.
